Steps to School

Transition to School

School readiness skills are continuously being developed throughout our services from the moment children enter our doors. Independence, resilience, sense of agency and self-help skills are supported throughout the day. In addition to this, in the year before school, children engage in a planned school readiness program designed by a team of early childhood leaders. This program further develops:

  • Language and literacy skills
  • Numeracy skills
  • Fine motor coordination and skills
  • Concentration and emotional maturity
  • Social maturity and independence

The school readiness program is integrated into indoor and outdoor play enabling children of all ages to further develop these skills.

Socio Dramatic Play

Dramatic play spaces allow children to foster creativity, develop their social skills, emotional regulation and cognitive growth.

At Woodstock carefully consideration of the resources and the environment when setting up ensures children are exposed to a variety of learning opportunities within the play space. We understand the environment is the third teacher which when prepared correctly is a powerful teacher, capable of fostering curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.

Creative Arts

Creative arts in early childhood education encompass a range of experiences like visual arts, music, movement, drama, and storytelling, all designed to foster self-expression, imagination, and skill development in young children.

At Woodstock these experiences are crucial for holistic development, impacting cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical growth. Exposing children to a wide variety and forms of creative art inspires their love of learning, curiosity and wonder.

Language and Literacy Centres

Language and literacy development is crucial for a child’s overall growth, it includes both the ability to understand and use language, and the foundational skills needed for reading and writing.

At Woodstock we firmly believe that language and literacy development is fostered through rich language experiences, interactive play, and exposure to print-rich environments. This exposure to enriched language environments starts from the babies’ room, all the way through to the preschool room.
